UK Statutory Instruments – Fields and Groups

Most documents in the UK Statutory Instruments database are fairly short and have roughly the same structure. They are divided up into fields as listed below, though not all fields are used in each document. Use the Outline to move quickly to any particular field in a document. Use the Search In Legislation screen to search for terms in one or more of these fields.

The fields in the UK Statutory Instruments database are classified into three groups, Heading (Reference, Subject, Title and Year fields), Dates (Commencement Date, Issued Date, Laid Date and Made fields) and Others (Effect, Enabling Act, Explanatory Note, Extent, Notice, Preamble, Presented, Schedule, Signed and Text fields). When you select fields for a search, you can select the Heading and/or Date groups as well as specific fields, so that you can easily search all of the fields in these groups. The Others group is not intended to be selected.
