Parliament – Name field

The Name field in the Parliament database on Justis contains the names of individuals (who may, or may not, be Members of Parliament) who are the subject of a record or who give evidence to Select Committees. For example:

Name   Hepburn, Audrey

Entries of this type are present from the 1992 Parliament onwards.

From the 1983/1984 Parliamentary session onwards, the Name field also contains the name of authors, editors or compilers of documents, for example:

Name   Nimmo Smith/WA; Friel/JD

The Name field in the Parliament database includes both the Name field and the Personal Author field from PIMS.

If you want to use the Name field on the Quick Search screen, or in the Full Text box on the Search In Parliament screen, its name is NAME, and you can use a search such as:

NAME[Audrey near Hepburn]

Using the proximity operator “near” allows for other words between the surname and forename.

The names of current and past Members of Parliament, Peers, members of the Scottish Parliament, members of the National Assembly for Wales, members of the Northern Ireland Assembly and Members of the European Parliament can be found in the Member field.

The names of corporate authors of documents, and the names of government departments answering parliamentary questions, introducing Bills or replying to debates, can be found in the Corporate Author field.
