J-Link Technology
J-Link is a technology developed by Justis Publishing for recognising a string of characters as a reference to a publication, and then launching an appropriate program, locating the publication in a database, and displaying it.
To the user, it works in a similar way to the hypertext links that are used in Web pages, Windows Help pages and Mac Help pages, but these have the link information built-in.
J-Link is much more advanced, and can make any reference in a plain text file, an HTML or XML file, or a Microsoft Word document into a link.
Justis Publishing is making the J-Link technology available in an increasing number of ways:
- “J-Link” in the Document Actions panel of the Document screen in Justis
- Full Text, Citation, Document Type and Reference fields on the Search screens in Justis
- J-Link button on the Document screen in Justis and Justis 5
- Quick Search screen in Justis and Justis 5
- Licensing for use in third-party applications
Recognising references in Justis
When you search for a publication reference on the Quick Search screen or in the Full Text box on any of the Search In screens, Justis intelligently processes your search.
Justis first examines your query to see if it can recognise it as the citation, publication reference or name of a document. If it does recognise it, then it retrieves the appropriate document. Justis also converts the reference into a standardised format, and uses that as a search term to retrieve other documents. Above the results and the document, the standardised reference is shown after “Searching for:”.
