CELEX – Sector and Year Field (typdoc)

The Sector and Year field in the CELEX database on Justis is part of the BIBLIO group, and contains the number and name of the CELEX sector, followed by the year, and finally a 1- or 2-letter code for the document type. For example:

Sector and Year	3; Secondary Legislation; 1996; R
Sector and Year	1 ; Treaty ; 2001 SEC-1-TYP-C

In the first example, the letter code is “R” which (for Sector 3) indicates Regulation. The letter codes used are the same as the ones used in CELEX Document Numbers.

To restrict a search to documents of a particular type, look for the Sector number and the letter code. For example, to look only for Merger Decisions use:

typdoc[3 and m]

or to look for opinions of the Economic and Social Committee use:

In the Outline, this field is called “Sector and Year” (“Document Type” is used for the Form field).

In documents, this field is shown as “Sector and Year”.

If you want to use the Sector and Year field on the Quick Search screen or in the Full Text box on the Search In EU screen, its name is “typdoc”, and you can use a search such as:

typdoc[amsterdam or nice]

CELEX also includes another classification of documents by type, in the Document Type (form) field.
