CELEX – Subject Matter Field (sub)

The Subject Matter field in the CELEX database on Justis is part of the Default group, and contains appropriate subject headings.

The list of possible subject headings comprises 215 terms which correspond broadly to the chapters of the Treaties establishing the Communities. For example, the terms “commercial policy” and “dumping” identify those documents which deal with anti-dumping regulations.

The more useful words for use as search terms are the lower level subject matters such as “fruit and vegetables”; or “dominant position” rather than the main headings “agriculture” or “competition”. For example:

Subject Matter     ACCESSION; AGRICULTURE; OILS AND FATS;

On the Search In EU screen, this field is called “Subject”.

In the Outline, this field is called “Subject Matter”.

In documents, this field is shown as “Subject Matter”.

If you want to use the Subject Matter field on the Quick Search screen or in the Full Text box on the Search In EU screen, its name is “subject”, and you can use a search such as:

subject[accession and agriculture] and typdoc[3 and l]

Used in the Case Law database (Sector 6), the Legislation database (Sectors 3 and 4), the National Implementation database (Sector 7), the Proposals database (Sector 5), the Treaties database (Sectors 1 and 2) and the EFTA Documents database (Sector E).
