CELEX – Date of Entry into Force Field (inforce)


The Date of Entry into Force field in the CELEX database on Justis is part of the DATE group, and contains the date on which the Act became operative, followed by a 2-letter code indicating what happened to the Act, for example entered into force, implemented, or took effect or partial effect. This field can contain more than one entry. For example:

Date of Entry into Force     1999/01/01=MA; 1999/07/08=PE

The 2-letter codes used in this field include:

EV Entry into force
MA Implementation
PE Takes effect

Date searching in this field is restricted to searching for an exact or truncated date; the date search operators are not available. It is possible to use a search such as "1999 and 07", but this will find documents for the 7th day of the month as well as for July.

In the Outline, this field is called “Date of Entry into Force”.

In documents, this field is called “Date of Entry into Force”.

If you want to use the Date of Entry into Force field on the Quick Search screen or in the Full Text box on the Search In EU screen, its name is “inforce”, and you can use a search such as:

inforce[1999/01* and ma]

Used in the Treaties database (Sector 1), the External Agreements database (Sector 2), the Legislation database (Sectors 3 and 4), the Proposals database (Sector 5), and the EFTA Documents database (Sector E).
