CELEX – Earlier Acts Field (earlacts)


The Earlier Acts field in the CELEX database on Justis is part of the Cross References group. In Sector 5 (Proposals), it contains the CELEX document number(s) of the earlier Act(s) referred to in the preparatory Act in question, of earlier Acts which may be modified by the preparatory Act, and of earlier Acts for which opinions of the European Parliament or the Economic and Social Committee were issued. In Sector 1 (Treaties), it contains the CELEX document number(s) of earlier treaties that are to be amended by later treaties. For example:

In documents, this field is shown as “Earlier Acts”.

If you want to use the Earlier Acts field on the Quick Search screen or in the Full Text box on the Search In EU screen, its name is “earlacts”, and you can use a search such as:

earlacts[51997PC0681]

Used only in the Treaties database (Sector 1) and the Proposals database (Sector 5).

The Earlier Acts field is complementary to the Future Proposals field, which is used in documents in the Proposals database and the Treaties database and lists the CELEX documents numbers of later Acts that affect the current document.
